Why Choose Cow Milk?

Why is cow milk preferred over buffalo milk?

Milk is undoubtedly one of the highly nutritious food items and hence regarded as a complete food. It is an excellent source of calcium, which is necessary for strong bones and teeth. Doctors recommend drinking milk every day in order to stay healthy and fit.

Cow milk differs from buffalo milk in richness and composition. Buffalo milk has lower cholesterol but more calories and fat compared to cow milk. Buffalo milk is consumed in South Asia, with India, China and Pakistan being the biggest producers.

But when you have to make a choice between cow and buffalo milk, which one is better? Well, both types of milk have their own positives and negatives. So, let’s see what is the major difference between the two:

 

  1. Lower Fat Concentration

Fat content actually is responsible for the consistency of the milk. Cow milk contains a lower amount of fat as compared to buffalo milk. This is why buffalo milk is thicker than cow milk. Cow milk has 3-4 per cent of fat, while buffalo milk has about 7-8 per cent. Buffalo milk is heavy, so it takes time to digest and keeps you fuller for a longer period of time while cow milk is easy to digest.

 

  1. Hydrates your body

Water is necessary for every individual and so if you want to increase your water intake then opt for cow milk. Approximately 90 per cent of cow milk is water and is excellent to keep you hydrated.

 

  1. Balanced Protein

 Buffalo milk contains 10-11 per cent more protein than cow milk. It is more heat resistant. Due to the amount of protein in it, buffalo milk is not recommended for infants and older people.

 

  1. Less calories and more health benefits

Buffalo milk has less cholesterol, more fat and more calories. On the other hand, cow milk has more cholesterol, less fat and fewer calories. It is, therefore, beneficial for healthy bones, dental health, reducing obesity in children, protection from thyroid diseases, and cardiovascular health.

Although both may be different from each other, one cannot deny the fact that both are healthy and safe to drink. It depends on person’s digestibility and tolerance towards a certain type of milk. Because people are more health-conscious and most people lately are quite particular with regard to consuming food that has lower fat, a large number tend to choose cow milk.
